The Book of Revelation is full of the language of crisis. Written in a context of persecution, it’s brought comfort to believers facing hardship ever since. But Revelation also provokes a sense of crisis, shaking us out of our prior notions of ‘how the world is.’ Revelation pulls back the curtain on the world of religion and politics and economics, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at what’s really going on. Accompanied by thunder and lightning, the message of Revelation challenges comfort, compromise and complacency wherever they are to be found. The question is: will we listen?
