A few years ago, Rigby Wallace from the Advance Global Team remarked on there being two frontiers of the gospel, ‘to the outermost parts of the earth, and the innermost parts of our hearts’. The phrase has stuck, and is regularly used – and even sung – across the Advance movement.
Our new series picks up and develops the ‘gospel advance’ theme from our Acts series by taking us into the Book of Psalms. We’re calling the series, ‘To the Ends of the Earth and the Depths of Our Hearts’, and alternating between the themes, with a focus on the nations one week, and our hearts the next. A healthy church needs to keep these two things in balance, and the prayers prayed by the Psalmists do this admirably!
The plan for each talk is to clearly and winsomely present Christ. Therefore, each of the talks is about ‘Christ and the nations’, or, ‘Christ and the human heart.’ This means the cross is central to the series as a whole.
