At the base of Mount Sinai God’s people have set up camp. The presence of God comes to speak with Moses and sends the message to the people that they will be his chosen people, a royal priesthood, God’s special possession. They people commit to following God’s ways and the presence of God comes on the mountain in smoke and fire. Later in 1 Peter 2:9 these words are echoed, that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, God’s special possession.
